Homeopathy

Homoeopathic medicine is a system developed in the 18th century by the German physician Dr Samuel Hahnemann. Its efficiency has been demonstrated over and over in its 200 year history. Homoeopathy remains one of the second most widely used medical systems in the world today, practiced and respected in countries as wide ranging as India, Germany and the United Kingdom where the British Royal Family is amongst its patrons. Homoeopathy is rapidly gaining popularity in Australia.

Homoeopathy uses thousands of specifically prepared medicines made from many different sources, most derived from plants and minerals. The preparation of homeopathic medicine is a unique procedure with the medicines in some instances being diluted beyond a measurable level. At this point medicines increase their therapeutic potential with their side effects being simultaneously minimised.

Homoeopathy is truly a holistic medicine, which offers a method of maintaining health and preventing illness. It is a subtle but effective therapy that can correct small imbalances long before the appearance of more serious symptoms of disease. Homoeopathy is the ultimate in preventative medicine, designed to strengthen the immune systems responses and reduce the susceptibility to common and acute conditions and the tendency to chronic disease. Homoeopathy seeks to make the body less susceptible to disease. Homoeopathy can also be used to treat minor accidents requiring first aid. Homoeopathy is gentle and ideal for the treatment of baby ailments as well as those in young children and pregnant women.

The philosophy of homeopathy is based upon the principle of Similars – that “like cures like”. In other words, any substance which is capable of creating symptoms in a healthy person will cure those same symptoms in a sick person if given in the right dose. For example, when cutting an onion we often experience an acrid runny nose, soreness in the throat and stinging, runny eyes; so a homoeopath will prescribe Allium cepa (the homoeopathic remedy made from onion) for the patient who has a cold and bad throat with these particular symptoms.

These are some of the conditions homoeopathy can help treat:

  • Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma and shock, insomnia
  • Eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, acne, herpes, warts
  • Asthma, hay fever, allergies, tonsillitis, colds & flu, migraines
  • Irritable bowel syndrome, digestive problems, constipation, diarrhoea, stomach ulcers, ulcerative colitis, coeliac's disease
  • PMS, menstrual irregularities, candida, menopausal symptoms, endometriosis, poly cystic ovaries
  • Cystitis, incontinence, sexual dysfunction
  • Arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis
  • Children's conditions such as teething, earaches, colic, tonsillitis, bedwetting, ADD/ADHD and other behavioural problems, sleep issues
  • pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness, mastitis
